Ladybugs. Lots and lots of ladybugs. 100,000 to be exact!  At 11 am on Saturday, April 11, Windsong Ranch in Prosper, Texas is releasing the beneficial insects on the community's event lawn.  With Earth day right around the corner, it is a fun and educational way to teach children all about the positive effects ladybugs have on the environment.

"Miss Bug" will read children the story, The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle.  She’ll share fun facts about ladybugs and then lead kids to the event lawn where they will receive handfuls of ladybugs to place all around the lawn.  After the release, families can enjoy snow-cones, face painting and balloon animals. The event is free and open to the public.

Ladybugs act as an environmentally friendly means of controlling the insect population and keeping plants healthy.  A single ladybug can eat more than 60 aphids per day and 5,000 in a lifetime.  In the spring, adult ladybugs will lay as many as 300 eggs in an aphid colony, where the larvae will feed on aphids for up to three weeks.  Up to six generations of ladybugs may be hatched in a single year.

Windsong Ranch is located at 1001 Windsong Parkway South Prosper, TX, 75078 (just 2.5 miles west of the Dallas North Tollway off of Hwy 380).
