Renowned Artist Brad Oldham to Create Monumental Sculpture for Windsong Ranch

Terra Verde Group announced today it has commissioned renowned artist Brad Oldham to design and create a site-specific sculpture for Windsong Ranch, its new master-planned development, located in Prosper, Texas and set to open this June.  The concept for the monumental sculpture design was an element of the master landscape planning of TBG Partners and was inspired by the physical location and the unique attributes of the community.

“It’s a representation of the natural environment,” said Oldham.  “The wind blowing through the trees, the variety of birds, rolling hills, ponds, lakes, beautiful grass.  The natural melodic sounds of the landscape really suit the name of the community and ultimately the sculpture.  The design and the material of this sculpture literally play with light in a way that is joyful to me.”

The sculpture, titled Windsong, is 85 feet long and 25 feet high and will be installed near the entrance of the community.  Oldham chose stainless steel for the sculpture’s material so the artwork would appear very fluid, like a stream of air.  The way this sturdy metal is twisted and shaped requires master skills.  The mirror-polish finish of the stainless steel picks up ambient colors and light, which results in a low-maintenance, low-tech, naturally dynamic installation that will change throughout the day and year and will stay beautiful for many years ahead.

“The sculpture will enhance the landscape and views near the entrance of Windsong Ranch in a way that provides a distinct sense of arrival,” said Craig Martin, Founding Partner of Terra Verde Group.  “When you drive into Windsong, spectacular artwork greets you and then the beautiful natural habitat embraces and welcomes you home.”

Production on the sculpture is still underway but is expected to be unveiled in June around the Grand Opening of Windsong Ranch.

Oldham’s list of sculptures is long, and his work may be viewed around the globe.  From public community spaces to private homes, Oldham has elevated many environments worldwide with his site-specific artworks.  In 2011, the Texas Society of Architects recognized Oldham with their prestigious Artisan Award and the American Institute for Architects also heralded him as the Artist/Craftsman of the Year.  In 2010, the Americans for the Arts included his $1.4 million installation The Traveling Man in its prestigious Year in Review program.
