Are you looking for quick, easy and healthy meals to serve your family?  Then join us on Tuesday, September 30, for the Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School.  This event will be held at the Conference Center at Collin College Preston Ridge campus, 9700 Wade Blvd., in Frisco. 

During this event, you will see demonstrations of quick and easy-to-make recipes to create at home; learn healthy and economical meal preparation ideas; discover new culinary tips and food preparation techniques as well as receive a cookbook and have the opportunity to win door prizes. 

The Royal Chef, Darren McGrady, will present “From Palace to Dallas” as part of the cooking school.  Chef McGrady is the former chef to Queen Elizabeth II, Diana Princess of Wales and Princes William and Harry.  He has donated an autographed copy of  his cookbook, “Eating Royally: Recipes and Remembrances from a Palace Kitchen,” which includes more than 100 recipes and 150 photos, and proceeds will benefit educational scholarships for Frisco ISD and Collin College culinary students.  Tickets, which may be purchased on site, are $1 each or 6 for $5. 

 “While there are many groups that conduct cooking schools, we believe our Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School has a unique niche,” states Carrie T. Brazeal with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, a sponsor of the event. “Our recipes are cost effective, easy to prepare and fit into a healthy meal plan.  They are perfect for busy people who still want to make time for meal preparation and feel good about what they are serving their families.” 

“We have tested all of the recipes and they are perfect for busy families. The cookbook will soon become one of your favorites,” says Brazeal.   

Other sponsors include Texas Health Presbyterian Hospitals Allen and Plano, Frisco ISD, The Cooper Institute, Texas Beef Council, Market Street, DairyMAX and Collin College’s Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Education.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and light snacks will be served. The cooking show begins at 6:30 pm and concludes at 8:30 p.m. Two easy and nutritious menus each consisting of an entrée, side and/or dessert will be demonstrated. Serving on the celebrity taste panel will be Dr.  Jeremy Lyon, Frisco ISD superintendent; Dr. Brenda Kihl, Provost at Collin College Preston Ridge; and Kim Pierce, a freelance food writer with the Dallas Morning News. All participants will also sample each of the menus as well.  

Those attending will receive a cookbook consisting of the demonstrated recipes along with recipes for twelve additional menus that can easily be created at home along with a reusable grocery bag filled with recipes and health information, a free gift from the Texas Beef Council, a flexible cutting board and other items.
